Council of Europe delegation on a working visit to Ministry for Ethnic Minorities

The Council of Europe delegation, comprising Coordinator for Southeast Europe at the Council of Europe Directorate of Strategic Planning Fridrich Holm, administrator Johan Fristed and consultant with the Directorate Dana Peskarus, arrived today on a working visit to the Montenegrin Ministry for Ethnic Minorities. The delegation was met by Assistant Minister Sabahudin Delic. The visit was aimed at collecting the data for the third quarter report of the Committee of Ministers on the fulfilment of obligations undertaken by Serbia-Montenegro as a precondition for its admission to the Council of Europe. Particular emphasis was placed on the coordination of Montenegrin legislation with ratified documents of the Council of Europe, particularly with the European Charter of Human Rights and the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities.Assistant Minister Delic acquainted the guests with the activities in producing the Law on Rights and Freedoms of Ethnic Minorities in Montenegro. Likewise, Delic presented the guests with this years plans of the Ministry concerning the improvement in ethnic minorities position in Montenegro. Stressing the quality and fruitfulness of the cooperation between the Ministry and the Council of Europe Office in Podrorica, Assistant Minister Delic expressed hope that the Draft Law would soon be forwarded to the Council of Europe for evaluation.
